MicroTouch SCT System from 3M is ideal for 5.7” to 12.1” displays in range of retail, consumer electronics and white goods applications

Bracknell, UK, 2 March 2009 – 3M Touch Systems, a division of diversified technology company 3M, today announced the availability of a new surface capacitive touch system designed specifically to meet the demanding requirements of applications such as video phones, washing machines, retail point-of-purchase (POP) and small all-in-one devices, using 5.7” to 12.1” LCD displays. The MicroTouch SCT3250CX system provides superior surface durability and optical transmission for device manufacturers requiring ultra reliable and high brightness touch displays.

The SCT system integrates a MicroTouch Sensor SCT3250 and the newly-released MicroTouch Controller CX. With a reduced component count and slim 0.8” x 1.9” board, this USB-HID controller is up to 54 per cent smaller and requires up to 25 per cent less power compared to typical 5-wire resistive solutions, making it ideal for compact touch devices with limited board space and low power requirements.

“With superior surface durability and typically 11.5 per cent higher optical transmission than traditional 5-wire and 7-wire resistive touch solutions, our new all-glass SCT system presents compact device manufacturers with a more robust and reliable, yet competitively priced alternative,” said Paolo Pedrazzoli, Marketing Operations Manager, 3M Touch Systems.
